Discuss Power Adapter . . . in the Industrial Electricians' Talk area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi Guys,

I have a Netgear router which uses an original power adapter rated 12V 1A. But I've lost this adapter and I am looking for a replacement. The closest I've found in my house is one I used for a Linksys router. But this one has a rating of "Output: +12V 1.25A".

I have quickly tried this latter one and it powers up the router fine. But my (probably minor) concern is whether this is safe for the long term; for the router as well as in general. i.e. the 'electrical current' discrepancy will not later damage the router or cause a electrical/fire hazard whil I'm out one day will it?

Please share your knowledge and expertise for a more definite verdict.

Many thanks in advance!
