I've got a cooker hood, which I bought because it moves a big volume of air. (Typical bloke, I wanted more power).
However.
Despite using large bore ducting to vent it, it's still quite noisy even on the lowest setting.
I'm wondering what would be involved to slow the lowest fan setting down even further, maybe by a factor of half...?
Any ideas ...?

Stick a light bulb in series with the motor.

The motor will have a minimum required speed that it needs in order not to overheat. Slowing it below the minimum speed they have given on the sped control could end in tears and a visit to the rewinders. What type of noise is it? Is it breakout noise through the fan housing or in-duct noise that's louder around the filters? Rather go with some sonic lining in the duct and around the fan housing.

These cooker hoods are a noise nightmare.
I'm going to track one down without a fan, or strip the fan out, and fit an IP rated job on the outside wall.

yep the new thing is now for the smoker in the family to stand beside it cos they cannot be ar$ed going outside

lol.
Top answers fellas.
Yeah it's just wind noise.
It's does move a good volume of air and does an awesome job. But sometimes you just want it half speed..!!

give itx 3 months to clog up with chip fat. that'll quieten it down a bit.
