Hi all, first post here. I was just wondering, when is it necessary to use earth tail pots when installing pyro? The installation involves outside lighting (metal light fittings) the cable being used is 2L 2.5. I know the fitting will be earthed via the gland and the cpc should be continuous through the metal fittings until the end of the circuit but surely an earth tail pot would have been a better job? Any input welcome, thanks!

i have always used earth tail pots since they where introduced if for some reason the gland became loose you are still covered its not as if it involves more work

I'm not sure, maybe you're right. I know the light fitting will be earthed through the gland but is that sufficient? It's defo not elv.

I agree with that statement as there may be numerous lights on this circuit and you're relying heavily on the integrity of every single gland as to ensure a low enough earth resistance at the last fitting

Hav'nt seen pots without earth tails for years. Can you still get them ? Would rather have a proper earth tail. Belt and braces !

For the sake of a few pence and a few minutes the ability to walk away when the job is completed without worrying is worth using pots with earth tails.

weve just used pots with no earth tails on a job but it was fire alarm so where happy with the earth traveling through the box we used tails on the plastic boxes, never used them before found them a bit annoying like hving the tail as you can see it moving round when your sticking it on.
