Discuss R1 + R2 expected readings in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Having followed this thread my conclusion this is health and safety at odds with itself

I would have to question a health and safety policy that places limitations on live testing by allowing some live tests but not others how have the potential hazards of live working been assessed against the control measures that should reduce the risk or does this company use some operatives who are not properly qualified or trained to carry out live testing therefore negating some or all of the possible control measures that could be used

I'd also like to know whether this is all communicated verbally to the OP or there is any kind of policy document / procedures manual.

I would also like to know if there is a policy document / procedures manual or SMS / RA who authored them and are they appropriately qualified to assess the hazards associated with these electrical tasks as from reading through this thread it appears there are some inconsistencies regarding the live testing the OP is allowed to carry out

I’ve only started for this company a couple weeks back,
And on the first day off testing with another lad who’s worked for them for a while I got told it’s only ze and rcd tests everything else is dead tests only.
I can’t tell you the reasons as I’m just going by what’s been put to all the other electricians who work at the company and all follow it

So why do they not allow Zs testing or has something been lost in the passing of this information from operative to operative.
I think you need to chat to your supervisor or manager to clarify the company policy on testing and any other information you should be aware of to work within the companies laid down procedures, I would have thought the company should have some form of induction training for new employees so avoiding this hearsay passing of procedure

It stinks of 'total safety' for the sparks but 'who gives a tinkers' for anyone following.
We all come across 'iffy' situations, but this is creating them when they don't exist.
Too many cowboys, we know, but now there's too much 'cover your back' and 'H+S bean $hitters'
