Replastering cable runs

Firstly I need to chase out for a cable run and socket in a plastered block wall. I havn't got any fancy gadgets, so is it down to masonary drills and bolster chisels or are there any tricks I can employ?

Secondly I'll then need to cover up, do you use bonding and then skim? or do you get a plasterer to finish?

The only tip for chasing I can give is to get someone else to do it!

Been chasing for years, and I have found that the best results for refinishing, is to fill the chase nearly all the way with either sand/cement mortar, or browning/bonding. Leave this about 5 mm below surface. Once DRY, finish with "ONE COAT PACTHING PLASTER", which is basically polly filla. This is easy to sand smooth. Block of 2 x 2, wrap of sand paper, couple of minutes, you'r done.

Have converted some decorators, and even a plasterer, to using the "one coat" and sanding method.

I would use bonding or browning first then once dry skim with multi-finish. There’s a knack to it but once mastered it’s the best finish- no sanding just paint.
