Stanley knive and craft type knives

hi everyone

A company who i have done work for in the past and the company i now have Banned all forms of stanley knives following a nasty incident with a very bad cut to an operatives leg.

he has recovered ok

i know that ck do an electriicans knife and you can swa ringing type tools but what have any of your gents out there done to overcome stripping swa cable without having to spend 70 plus quid on a ringing tools you may only use once a year in our case for example?

Put 2 fingers up to the morons who introduced this daft rule and get the stanley knife out

How can you ban any legitamate tool
The overwhelming number of tools are dangerous in idiots hands
We are pampered beyond belief by these absolute morons in the H+S brigade

I despair sometimes at what fills their brain cavities

Old rule with knives: ALWAYS WORK AWAY FROM YOURSELF AND OTHERS and dont let others distract you whilst working. should be about it really. This "industry" that is health and safety is weighing down on the shoulders of real industrys like ours and i think its getting to the point where we cant do our jobs without some sniveling little busy body jumping put from the bushes and reporting you for a breach of some stupid rule they`v invented..............

muppets indeed they must be as in practice you would be more likely to cut or injur yourself with a blunt knife than a sharp one due to the effort that you would put into the cutting object so personaly use a sharp penknife just to keep the peace what is this country coming too

Heard this rule a number of times on various sites over the last few years (probably about 5 years now).
The most recent being the Olympic site a month or so back.
Had to have a permit to use any knife at alll.

On the olympic site the only knives you can use are auto retracting and then only with a RAMS and a permit.

Bacho do one that retracts when your not holding it as for the "Stupidity" of HnS on site most of the HnS problems are due to probably 5% not using tools correctly resulting in said tools being banned Iv seen dry wallers with a shielded blade board cutter He said it was weird at first and took a bit of getting use to due to it cutting full way through board

the stupidest one iv heard is RIGGER boots being banned due to lack of ankle support ffs Im sure I could come up with at least 1 reason to "BANN" 90% of my tool kit on some "Possible" h n s infringement

well, on the subjecyt of the olympics:

hammer throw is now the wet sponge throw.

javelin is now the feather duster throw.

discus is now frisbee.

hurdles is now step aerobics.

show jumping is now walking the horse.

any more?

Which is why you Never see a British H&S officer on any overseas projects. They were long ago deemed ''Trouble'' with a capital T. Most projects these days, have saftey officers from Aussie, NZ, even the States, ....Anywhere in fact but the UK!!! ..lol!!

In fact i can't remember knowing any on site, since the MTRC in HK, back in the 80's. Even there they were nothing but trouble, the next phase on that project employed Aussie saftey officers....

Yes they were banned on the Olympic site as I recall.

I’ve used a Tyzak knife for 20 years. OK you have to screw the blade in and out, but it never slips, unlike Stanley knives. If I want just 2mm of blade to strip the inner serving then that’s what I set it as.
Nothing would part me from it.

I had an accident in my van recently, so I'm afraid vans are now banned people... You'll all have to push your kit around in a wheelbarrow...

What a load of absolute nonsense! Ban knives?! Does this apply to the cutlery for your packed lunch too?

On one of the forums I use, someone recently said that hop-ups had been banned on their site as someone had fallen off one...

H & Safety is common sense half the time but when you have to fill in paper work half the time which anything does happen companies chuck it back at you your fault !

they are so afraid of being sued these days and thats what drives health and safety

Apparently not as much they do not shatter like a stanley blade can ?

have been an ordered a ck electricians knife from screwfix abouut 11 quid or so

In the Geordie shipyards it was always "Cut away from yourself & towards your mate!!" (as told to me by the 3 ex-shipyard blokes who worked for me)

Stanley knifes should not be used for stripping cables, because they are too sharp and can easily nick the copper. We were taught to use cobblers shoe knives, very strong, versatile and last forever. If want to know what they look like do a google image search.
