Spooky...this is a question my friend should have asked,BEFORE he decided to play with his recently purchased 3PH Drier compressor,refusing to start,he dropped the panel and manually pressed 2 out of the 3 contactors....which,due to the amount of dissolved contacts,must have been the Star & Delta. The main contactor being left out of this fun...will be there tomorrow,taping off scene and looking for bodies...:mickey:

That's why it's essential to have both electrical and mechanical interlocks fitted!

Mechanical interlocks aren’t essential but a sensible addition. It won’t be the first time a contactor has welded in.
I’ll be honest I don’t like Y∆ starters, but needs must when the supply isn’t up to DOL.
 
I have always liked star delta starters (manual) - really feels like you're getting stuck in, like kick starting a motorbike!
