Yep got suckered in to a job where a guy running a letting agent asked me to come out as the flat he was about to let for a short term half the lights were not working. He said he had checked the fuses so I said yep ok I will be their in 20 minutes went down and the fuse had gone the wire was broken at the top where the screw was instead of inside the window. Anyway replaced same fusewire and he said invoice me. Ok sent an invoice a month ago for just under £50 and no reply also sent agian requesting payment and again not a reply . Basicaly I am at fault here as I always requste that they send me a confirmation email of the call-out and I took this guy on trust so ok lesson learned so I hope he will not be daft enough to try and call me out again.

Martin & Co per chance ?

Got done twice , once for a call out , new fan

And when they ****ed up one of our rental properties costing us £800 in new carpets

Then they had the cheek to call me to do another job , told them where to go and offered to go to the office to demonstrate free of charge.

No not them and I dont want to name them just now but I highlighted this about a month ago that this type of thing is becoming more common as i have never had this problem but in the last 6 months thats now 2 that just wont pay plus I have had to chase 4 customers for £50,£75, £90 and £340 not a fortune by any means I just think this is plain rude and maybe I have been either sheltered or just lucky as this might be the norm although one point is all 6 did not send a confirmation email . I am on to this now as I got a calout request and I said to the guy can you send me an email confirmation please he replied I dont have your email address I said it is in front of you as you have found me on the web he then said hold on I will need to call you back. He never did which makes me think that his intentions were not to pay me and ok I escaped that one but what type of person does these things although an idea would be to have a system in place where you could see that there was a dispute with an address for non payment ie name and shame.

I hate out of hours calls
I take payment via debit card if I don't know them, makes it easier all round
Regular custromers just get invoiced as normal

Easy fix to this problem. ask when they call you "Who is paying me, and will i get paid on completion of the job", If the answer is NOT "me and yes you will", i would never go.

Cheers...........Howard

same here. they don't expect to fill their car with fuel and pay when they feel like it, why should they try it on with us?

landlords and agents must be a mine field its reading things like this make me glad im employed and dont have to deal with cack like this as I would Invoice their window in paint with IOU £50 in foot high letters

The way I look at it Lesson Learned I like to think that this type of behaviour catches up with you as a letting agent did the same to a mate and then 6 months later (during the bad winter last year) they phoned him again and he said no problem I will get right on to it well it was a Friday at 11:00 so when they called him at 19:00 and said where the hell are you he said what callout ? they said we called you out and you did not respond he no that cannot be right because I got stung 6 months ago when I was told we are not paying as you have no written instruction they said so I will not go out unless I get a confirmation business email I dont take phone instructions So whats that got to do with us they said Well he said it was you that called me out.............................................................6 months ago

The LL I am taking to court (see other post) is like this, he gets work done and then doesn't pay / pays less than what's due. He met his match with me as I confirm things in writing and record all my telephone calls

I've had 3 out of hours calls in the past week that fail to confirm or call back when I mention payment before we leave to attend job

and record all my telephone calls

dont you need to tell them the call is being recorded for it to be allowed in court?

my new method of working for letting agents is payment up front, last time did 5 consumer unit changes and tests and a lot had additional off peak boards and never got paid - however in the end hed wished he never crossed me, but id of prefered payment.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]No, provided you are not
intending to make the contents of the communication available to a third party.
If you are you will need the consent of the person you are recording.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Yes they can, but only in a
limited set of circumstances relevant for that business which have been defined
by the LBP Regulations. The main ones are:
