Have to share what i found today doing an eicr.

asked client if there has been any known problems, "no mate"
any known extensions or alterations, "no mate all just as it was when we bought it, re wired just before then 15 year back"

all was going well, neat job all, good results until a test for continuity of cpc on upstairs sockets, and find there was'nt any!!
traced problem to back bedroom sockets that had there earth's removed from terminal and neatly taped up!!!???
when reconnected, test results were near perfect??

Asked the client again if there were any known problems, especially in that room, to which this time he replies
"oh, a fella i know, who knows a bit about electrics sorted a problem out for me a few years ago?"
"something in that room was causing the breaker to trip, he sorted it, stopped it from tripping anyway."

i think i have a lot to learn about jo public!!

Just say this fella your know could have easily killed you or your family as he's disconnected the wire that is their to save you ..... next time you see him tell him thanks for a bodge job that could have killed me....this usually hits home ;)

Fair play to you, good job sampling wasn't used in this instance. Never believe Mr J Public.
