I'm thinking about trying some urban exploring. Anyone tried it or intersted?

Might give it a go if I have to give up work, although I would rather be doing in my old haunts in Bath, but I expect Northampton has it's mysteries like any other major city. Got links or info about urban exploring or is down to you to find out things? anyway good luck on your endeavours

I've always fancied it, too.

As above, some old factories etc are better works of art than most 'diarrhoea on canvas' pieces in galleries. Just looking at some of the industrial photos and can see the electrics are done to a really lovely standard, behind the graffiti and plants of course....

Been searching around the web and one place I would love to try is Battersea power station. Looking at some pics the 2 control rooms look amazing.

I have done a bit in my youth, was not into photography though so have no records of it. It wasn't called urbex then, just "breaking into old places" Skateboarding round an abandoned hospital was fun :D

It's usually still called 'breaking into places' if the police catch you. I did some locally a few years ago before it became fashionable. We went in small groups and explored a disused prison and an old railway workshop amongst a few other places. It would probably be a hell of a lot easier now with the easy availability of cordless grinders ;) We were all regular climbers so we broke in the difficult way.

lol I know what it is, I did it around 20 years ago. Old mental hospital on the outskirts of brum & one not to far from me. Both redelveoped now. I was reading the works of a photographer who take pics of old abandoned industrial work sites around europe not long back, and thought it looked fun. Did u see the prog on ch 5 the other night about underground wonders of uk? There's a old bunker under birmingham City I would like to have a look at.

so, hitler did survive in the bunker and is now running birmingham city council?

From what I've been reading providing your not carrying tools or haven't physically broken anything to gain access, then the worst that will happen if caught is a quick frog march to the exit.

Hope so for your sake
But what is left to look at nowadays as everything is now housing or building sites . Isn't battersea power station being converted at the moment

Yes, Battersea is being turned into plush apartments and you won't get anywhere near the place anymore.

There's an old cinema complex in grays essex that's good but slowly falling apart it's still got a Wurlitzer organ that rises out of the floor . One of two left in england

Will they be keeping any of the old power station do you know rockin or will it be completely gutted

Battersea is now a major construction site so it may be near on impossible to get to now, I say near on impossible only because a couple of chaps manage to scale the shard whilst that was being built without getting caught!

Me and a few mates used to do this a lot a few years ago, Epsom which is fairly local to us had at one point, 5 mental asylums. We saw 2 out of the 5 as the other 3 had been knocked down or converted to flats. I used to love it, you get a very eerie feeling wandering places that used to be bustling with activity, only to be left for nature to slowly take back. There was lots of history literally just left, old patient report cards, medical equipment, straight jackets, all sorts. My favourite one was Cane Hill asylum, which was in a really sorry state apart from the on site chapel. We got caught there by the security, but as we weren't in there to wreck it, he kept the dog on its lead and was quite friendly in escorting us out.

The link that Archy put up is a great site, and if you get the chance sintra go for it! It's great fun and if you're handy with a camera as well you'll get plenty of opportunities to grab some pretty dramatic shots. I'd like to get back into it before all of these places get turned into housing etc.

Here a topic I did a while ago for http://www.midlandsheritage.co.uk

There’s a similar topic on 28 days later

But as Marvo said, the police will take a dim view of “breaking and entering”.

Balls, another forum I'm going to have to sign up to!

Did this back in the 80s when I lived down there...

see this ... King William Street

Wish we had digital cameras back then!

We got in following the last train out of Borough tube, up the track a few 100 yards to where the original line branches off.

never got round to it due to lack of time and "balls" the place was only used to capacity during the miners strike and has been mothballed for years. seems its too late now as has mostly been stripped or demoed recently

see Inverkip power station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ps urban explorers take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints, causing damage is a criminal offence trespass is usually a civil offence and ignored unless its railway or MOD
