My mates just had his transit turned over in Hersham surrey outside his own house at lunch time. They got in through the near side mirror window and got to the wiring loom in the steering colume one snip and the rear central locking went. Brand new Milwarkee tool kit gone radios fein cutter makita corded and a whole load of other stuff. Just a heads up if your in the same area.

I know that its not funny but your thread title made me remember my old reliant vans that were constantly getting turned over by drunks from the pub.
I was often getting the neighbour to give me a hand to put it back up the right way again (and occasionally a policeman if they were feeling helpful if/when they woke me up to report it)

when are ford and other manufacturers going to take van security seriously? a 20 year old suzuki rascal is more secure than a new transit.

Spoke to a policeman and he said when you have a van you should put an add on the side "Please break in for 2-3K of tools and gear no qualifications needed" me I would cut their hands off although he told me a story where a guy was getting his transit broken into once a month until he and 2 mates sat inside with baseball bats then all of a sudden there was no more breakins

That's why my van signs are magnetic. They only go on when at a job and parked outside the customers house.
No point advertising that I've got tools in the van...
The neighbours know what I do. But anyone out snooping will just find a plain white windowless van with a steel bulkhead...!

His van isn't sign written :( they must have seen him loading up on another job and followed him home/or to the next job. Apparently talking to a van security company today, as now I'm looking into getting slam locks fitted to my connect, just to make me feel better as I've got X amount more kit in mine than he did, they said new shape sprinters are quite easy to knick by unplugging the ECU under the left wheel arch plugging in an old one unlock the van with the old ECU's matched key change the IR key slot in the cab and the van can just be driven away or alternatively just unlocked and the back cleared:furious3:

I dont think they were watching him this appears to be a popular misconception its the same with householders when they get their house broken into they think they have been watched and their movements recorded for days but this just does not happen it is purley down to bad timing ie they go into an area the check out the houses who is in who has an alarm and is it real plus who has left the hall light on this above all others is a big advert to say Hello we are away out we are to mean to pay for an outside light and then leave the lounge light on instead we leave the hall light on as we have glass doors and this will deter the crooks Errrrr no it just makes it worse.

Another thing we have seen a great deal of sheep stealing of late (no this is not a joke) funny enough just like certain parts of Europe plus here is an idea for you say that you wanted to set yourself up as say a plumber in the UK and you needed a new set of tools when you got here because Ryan Air charges a fortune where would you go to get these tools at a good price. I will leave you to fill the blanks in

OK then, here's one for you - To write up your van or not. Plus side = free advertising, Downside = theft risk.

Discuss: The inconvenience / morals / invasion aside, is the cash value of net profit generated by the advertising greater than the cash cost of replacement tools if stolen thereby making a business case to accept the risk?

Well said

If you've got the right van security to start with tracker, alarm, immobiliser, slam locks or dead locks, steel bulkhead etc, sign writing it shouldn't be an issue.

Along with smart water and signs that you use it.

I've just seen on the web ford in America as an optional extra made by dewalt have a radio identification reader integrated into the vans sat nav display, so you can put Radio identification tags in or on expensive tools the system then senses them in the van, so you know you haven't left them on a job or they've grown legs and walked off
