Hi guys,I've got a job to do which involves terminating 8x185mm 4 cores and 4x120mm 4 cores. Now I've looked at 400mm waterpump pliers,Knipex ones at about 90 quid each and cheap and nasty finger trappers from about a tenner.Just wondered what you guys thought or have experienced doing this size of glands?

b&Q do decent big grips, for £25 each. they dont slip either. Thats what i use for big glands, when gland spanners are not available, or wont fit in the room!

To be honest, these babies are the dogs dangly things for any size of cable gland. Google for suppliers. Ridgid E-110 Hex Wrench.

Around 50 quid seems to be the going rate. Have used these on and off for years, according to what I can gather they are good for up to 67mm. Havent met a gland yet the dont fit, and there is nothing worse looking than a gland chewed to hell by someone using pipe grips.

Clicky on the piccy for a link to toolstop who have them on offer.

that's why we are given gland boots, lol

I have a very large set of stilsons from my forklift truck engineering days, they are about 2 and half foot long closed, and a very good make (Record I think), I wont be needing them but will put a piccy on when i get a minute, they are heavy so they will be best offer plus postage, proceeds to the charity.

Cheers............Howard

Use whatever you wish to TBH, but if you try to present a cable gland that is chewed up through someone using grips to tighten it on a petrochem or offshore job, then I am afraid it will get refused and some poor bugger then has to go to the trouble of changing it out. .

Hence the reason to use proper spanners if at all possible.

Once did get a set of 85mm spanners sent up by the company I was with at the time for some 4c 240mm cables. Bloody spanners weighed a ton.
