hi i know this i probily a stupid question but we are starting wiring systems at college and i was wondering what exactly is a wiring system?

is it the cable and enclosure that you choose?

I wouldn't try to read too much into it, a wiring system is just the installing and connecting of components using wiring (or maybe cabling). The containment used such as enclosures, conduit, trunking could be considered part of the wiring system.

What course and which module are you doing?

also i have a homework question it says "what does bs7671 state about how environmental factors can affect the selection and erection of wiring systems, associated equipment and enclosures"
the only thing i can find in the regs is reg 512.2.1 and what it says under section 522 but not sure if that answers the question asked

I'm not familiar with the UK regs at all but environmental factors would include vibration, abrasion,, motion, heat, cold, sunshine (UV light), moisture, acids & alkalies (soils etc), grease etc.

For example you can't use standard PVC cabling and wiring on an outside wall that's in full sunlight. You also can't use an IP44 enclosure if it's likely to be sprayed with water (bathroom zones)

Reg 512.2.1 talks about the "equipment", the question is asking about wiring systems suitable to the environment in which the cable will be installed so your correct by looking at section 522. eg.

A bakery near the ovens may be very warm so you will have to use a cable that is able to withstand the heat. FP200 can handle 200C as where normal T+E PVC/PVC can only handle a max of 70C.

Just as Marvo has said above about the different locations and things that may affect the cable, now look through section 522 for each one of the things you would do/design to protect that cable/circuit. Have fun and dont forget about containment (pvc and galv conduit, swa)
