call out to RCD trip . as soon as downstairs lighting MCB is closed, RCD ( dual RCD board, ) trips. L/E reading 0.02 Meg. logical approach, start at first light, split circuit and proceed from there. open 1st rose, all 3 L conductors twisted together and stuffed under 1 screw . OUCH. fault is downstream. OK, onwards. 6 fittings later, several terminations remade, end up in downstairs loo. FCU for fan and light, fuse removed. fault still there. open FCU. cables so short had to snip at terminals. get FCU to where i can see it properly, arced and burnt through plastic between Lin terminal and earthing bar. fault now cleared. extend cables with through crimps, heat shrink, new FCU. close up ceiling roses and switches. IR test at CU. reconnect, close up. 4 hours to find a simple fault. ( mind you, the house was full of junk, right obstacle course. also, customer is family friend, so gave a generous discount on normal rate.

What was the fault tel?

Loose wire?

Or a 2KW fan?:D

Fault finding can be fun but I've got one coming up that I'm dreading in my least favourite indian takeaway, one light is tripping an RCD so no big deal. Last time I was there I had to connect up a new extract fan in their range hood, I could only get in on a Saturday morning. They had chicken carcasses defrosting in running water which had overflowed and buckets of onions on the floor uncovered.
They wondered why I refused a free curry

Surely you don't get to see all the other places you have curry in.

Do you? lol

Anyway, once things have been cooked, they become sterilised,

Don't they? lol

nope, just a small room, 6'ft x 3 ft. with a bog. at rear of terrace house. it is damp as another thing was the terminals in the light switch showed signs of corrosion.
