After reading a post about what people thought about Mr Dysons vacuum cleaners, I need to ask what other people use.
We have used a Dyson in the house, and a bagless Vax. We used to have a Henry but that got relegated to the garage for cleaning the cars etc, but it succumbed to a smoking related illness.
I'd like to keep one in the van for those little domestic jobs, rather than using the customers. Any ideas?
We have a B&D Dustbuster but that cant pick up a grain of salt.
Something rechargeable would be handy. Cordless Dyson? or GTech?

You thought about looking at one that uses your battery tool batteries ?

That's a clever idea, but I don't mind having a bank of different chargers.
I think if you buy one of these multipacks with drills, jigsaw, SDS etc, even a radio... when the batterys eventually don't charge like they should, you maybe can't get a replacement... You've lost half a dozen power tools in one go.

Festool for work best vac I have used. Miele cat & dog for home. Cordless have GTech OK and fine for basic cleaning and convenience Dyson which is nasty plastic and horrible bad mistake.

Recently bought an elcheapo water vac from Stewfix to help empty some water pipes and tanks. It's surprisingly good, but feels flimsy. Still have Henry :)

Dewalt do a 18v hoover it’s great for tidying up in houses.
I have the dewalt one, it uses the 18v or 54v flexvolt batteries or a 230v socket, only has a very short flex though. It will do about 25 minutes with a 5ah battery. Has a HEPA filter and will also clean up fluids.

i use a Makita one and it is excellent and easy to clean. being cordless it uses the same 4a battery as i use in my other tools.

Got a couple of Henry's, a George & a Wickes wet dry vac that we use for the chaser. Good thing about Henry / George is the range and availability of spares.
For cheapness the Wickes was a really good buy at £35, only thing it's bloody loud! Looks like they've replaced it with a new version for £50.

We've also now got a Henry at home that has replaced the various Dysons that end up falling apart.

Whatever you get don' get titan from screwfix, bought it to use in work for dust etc but itnis absolutey useless couldn't suck air

bagless henry bought for £2, 10 years ago. used with chaser and all other tough jobs. easy empty, just tip it out. all other vacs. suck (NOT).

At home, I bought a secondhand/reconditioned Dyson...Its heavy buyt does ok for what I would term a sensible price.

OH then wanted a lightweight cordless, so we went with the VAX version...its ok but not brilliant although does have a decent run time unlike some.

In the garage I have a metal dustpan and a wooden hand brush...It works far better than any of the small cordless vacs I've seen...If I were back on the tools again, that's what I would use, along with a corded Henry for bigger cleaning jobs..

GTEC for me but I'm biased as OH works there.
In truth it does work well and handles all the dust and metal drilling bits out of any panels I have worked on.

henry or whichever other hoover in the range of hoovers with faces is for industrial use, henry will see you out of every situation though!

we had a henry at college and he took some abuse lol, whole notebooks of paper, pens, rubbers, bits of cable

Henry still going strong for the last 10 plus years and never had a bag in it! It's had some serious abuse with plaster, bits of cable etc. I've tried the customer's Dyson's on occasions but find them cumbersome and overrated. It would be nice though to find something a bit smaller though that is man enough for the job.

I tend to use the wife

along with the kirby. g tech for home use . nice and light for 'er indoors to carry, and, as a gesture of goodwill gtech sent us a new battery pack FOC when vac was 12 months past warranty. no use for anything heavy though.

I've not seen or used any of the high end battery domestic vacuums, but I can't help thinking the more run of the mill version are not much of a step up from the old push "sweepers" our parents had as kids...

I think I’ll get another Henry for the garage and throw the bag away. It seems to be getting good feedback. As I said in original post, our old one went up in a cloud of smoke. I borrowed F.I.L’s to finish the job, and his is a bag less Henry he keeps in the shed for cleaning up after woodturning.

I've got the cheeeeeeeeeap titan screwfix one, as somebody else said they are flimsy, but £30 for the little one, and it genuinely is very powerful, its downfall are the poor quality bags.

one plus is it also has blow function if your connecting to a chasing tool and are in a wind the labourer up mood

If you don't use a back then the cloth filter or whatever it is gets clogged up with dust.

Anybody ever come across one of these?
