Discuss Micc conversion from imperial to metric in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

We have found we can`t match metric with imperial.....so have used the nearest imperial gland to terminated in adaptable box, crimped and continued in metric....is there a better solution...??

What particular size do you need to terminate?

certain metric glands will fit imperial micc a digital vernier is what you need, the pots can be a problem to fit correctly but as a last resort you could drill the pot thread out and solder them on

a digital vernier is what you need

Or look for the 3-digit number on an existing gland to confirm the replacement gland size. If you know that and the number of cores it completely identifies the original cable. E.g. a 2-core cable in a 234 gland would be 0.0015 sq ins or 1mm²

8mm OD on a lighting circuit? 8mm is 0.315in., for a 440V 2-core that would be closest to 0.0045 sq ins which is about 2.9mm², which is 0.324in OD. For a 660V it would be closest to 0.002 or 1.3mm² which is 0.340in OD, but would not expect a 660V cable on a lighting cct.

Check that number...
