Hi all, not normally my area but have just installed an Android 7" double din head unit in my L200 to replace the stock 2014 era Kenwood/garmin unit. The new unit is an amazon Chinese beastie that only cost slightly more than a gamin map update so thought i'd give it a go :) what could possibly...
Anyone else going through this?
I had a warranty claim (finally) accepted mid December but still no sign of a replacement. UK agent has been waiting for stock for months and there's a big list ahead of us.
Poor service.
Edit: At what point are they in breach of their UK/EU warranty...
Just wondering what everyone is using for slate these days? I've not had the joy of a retrofit slate install for over a year and with a van free of the old kit i'd like to re-asses my options.
I went from Schletter to Limpets a couple of years back after a complete disaster with galv nails and...
I think a some of you were trialing VO at some stage, is that right?
I've always been dubious of its benefits for domestic but I've just been sent a Project Solar quote showing over £7k in savings from VO over the Fit lifetime.
Lots of other things in the quote that i know are exaggerated so...
Looking at doing an AP course as i'm keen to get into the O&M side of MW scale solar, I'm after some advice from people in the HV industry.
There are a couple of City & Guilds accredited courses around but do they make you employable? Has anyone done one or put staff through one? If you are...
HI all,
With the changes recently to building control i'm being asked more often to quote for new builds, both for builders/electrical contractors as well as private homeowners.
I've found that i get in pretty early to get the roof side done but have to wait months to get in and get it wired...
I have been doing quite a lot of service and maintenance work over the last 12 months and have observed a large amount of loose/slack terminations on the AC side of PV systems.
I had originally put this down to inexperienced installers rushing to hit deadlines as so many of the installs seem...
Hi All, This is a bit niche but i've been asked to refurb an antique lamp to dimmable led and i'm after a very tiny cable that will take 230v but only run a single 4W LED. There are 5 of these on the lamp that come back to a connector then off in 0.75 flex.
Also after an inline dimmer for the...

Been out of the loop for a bit, am I right in assuming that batteries for a domestic self consumption situation are 5%?
Also for off grid systems?
Cheers

Hi All,
I've been employed since January with a regional installer since my previous business was very small and local and my Partner lost heart in the industry and moved on.
I am now re-entering the market as a sole trader and am interested to know what you guys would do differently if...
Anyone got the IEC62446? We're getting more involved with maintenance and this seems to cover the testing and maintenance side of things.
But its £160 or so as opposed to the IET CoP at £45 for a member. Can anyone give any guidance on this guidance?
HI All,
Got a damaged LDK235 Poly and looking for a replacement. Can't find a UK contact and no answer from China.
Anyone got one kicking about in the store?

Morning all,
Pulled up a couple of string cables from a section of ducting that has been flooded this week. IR tests are low and indicate a problem. Inverters RCMU's are not liking it.
No visible damage or problems with the cables so just wondering if its possible that they can absorb water...
Morning all,
Came across an interesting one yesterday. On a farm, two P1 27.6kw inverters with identical arrays that used to have the same output, since nov2015 one is running about 20% down as i witnessed.
Immediate assumption was that a string was down but string voltages tested out fine, 6...

Anyone know of any stacked CU's that meet the new regs? I have about 20 circuits and a narrow piece of wall to get it in.
Currently there is a timeline of smaller CU's spanning the decades all over the place and I need to consolidate them.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,
We have a potential customer who can get panels for £50 each from a company who 'clears solar farms'...
Don't ask, i don't know the details but it's allegedly legit and he wants a price for installation.
It's not something we've considered before, has anyone else been asked to do...
