I am happy with calculating current carrying capacity for straight runs of cable. I am not to sure how the imact of a ring effects the cable calcs? Its hard to see what the possible loads might be. As of this do you take the center point and use maximum demand?
So for example on a 35 meter ring...
When carrying out Zs test for a particular circuit lets say Socket, what happens to the RCD protecing that circuit does it have to be ON or OFF? I know that the socket under test must be On and I know it is a live test.
Many Thanks.

The article doesn't mention what qualifications this 'electrician' had, but it seems he had filled in the EICR incorrectly, providing values for circuits which didn't exist, then the QS was given 46 EICRs to check at once, and missed the mistakes.
Should the CPS prosecute?

Hi,
I am looking for a bit of advice on the Regs relating to BS 3036 fuses on a ring main, as I do not agree with the comments made on a PIR.
The defect states that the conductors are too small for the protective device due to the 0.725 factor.
The circuit is wired in 2.5mm2 singles in...
Is it acceptable to leave a 2 core 10mm2 MICC cable supplying an upstairs flat on a 100A suppliers fuse? (Maxing demand is acceptable and disconnection times are within tolerance.)
Hi all can some one help me out with this,
It = In divided ccxcixcgxca
I have a 32 amp mcb divided by cc 1 x cg 0.80 x ca 1.03 = 38.8 amps current carrying capacity.
What would the tabulated current carrying capacity be, as it should be higher than the current carrying capacity.
Hope...

Morning all,
Is there any requirement to earth the catenery of the above situation?
I can't see any reason to, so was just wondering what others had to say.
Thank you
when carrying out a PIR before an address is rented out, there are always the issues of original wiring being sub standard for current regs. examples being earthing, special locations, RCD's smoke detectors to state just a few.i always make a point of upgrading the earthing, and do my best to...
Just answered a question on another post ,and it dawned on me , yippee the brain kicked into gear , i have read on loads of posts that people say doing an inspection just calculate the R1R2 by doing a Zs and taking away the Ze , i have never liked this method and heres a reason why ...

Hello all
I was wondering if anyone could help me understand why our toaster came with a 0.75 sq mm flexible cable with 13A BS1362 fuse on the plug.
In class we've learnt that the rating of a protective device has to be lower than the current carrying capacity of the cable it protects.
But...

Im working in africa right now, I have 2 sets of regs, SANS (South African national Standard) and BS7671;2008... anyway to cut a long story short, both regs state different current carrying capacity for eg 70mm 4 core buried direct, a huge difference, I know the BS7671;2008 regs as my own, and...

Garage install using 4.0mm SWA 3core, clipped direct 10m then buried underground 10m.
Would 4.0mm SWA be sufficient to carry at most 38 amp? (32amp ring + 6amp lights)
Looking in regs (page 280) I'm not sure what to use 6.0mm or 4.0mm, as for 3core it states maximum current carrying...
