The sparky I am working with always mounts consumer units on a fire retardant board. I am in two minds as to whether this is necessary.
Regulation 421.1.201 states that the enclosure must be manufactured from non-combustible material but doesn't mention what it should be mounted on.
Can anyone...
I am fed up with shoddy labelling using stickers with the CU so bought a Brother P touch E110 label printer
It has a Faceplate option which appeared to be ideal.
I set it for faceplate width up to 300 mm and the enter the text but cannot see how to get spaced out sections.

Hi All,
A family member is looking to having their consumer unit change to a larger one with Rcbo's.
I have seen a 36 way wylex board WYLNMDRS36SSLHA however it is a dual rcd.
Can the rcd's be removed and board used solely with Rcbo's?
I told them I would try to find out for them.
Many thanks
Hi
Looking for some advice please.
I started renovating my house in 2015 and as part of this I ripped out all the wiring and got my electrician to rewire it including a new plastic consumer unit. There is still some electrical work to do so none of it had been signed off yet.
As the plastic...
Hi, I am having weird behaviour from my flat's electrics which I think will need an electrician. The flat is empty whilst it is being redecorated and there is nothing plugged in.
With no load the RCD trips some days and will not reset but other times is fine. I have discovered that if I switch...
Dont change many consumer units, usually go ok but had one today that I did cheap for next door neighbour (Why is it always the ones you do cheap for friends and family that bite you). Anyway changed the board etc, all ok. Then came testing and obviously have various alterations in the last...
Hi all. I've come across a live, 2amp socket outlet in the lounge (round pin) & it's now isolated at the unit. I want to convert it to a std 13amp socket outlet. I don't know how I can do this, I wont say "any ideas" this forum will no doubt know.
Thanks in anticipation.

Done an EICR this week on a small flat, no issues other than the CU, E-line dual RCD, plastic, roughly 10 years old. MCBs didn't seem to sit right with cover on, in fact there was a blank missing that I was going to replace and then realised why it was missing, because the gap was just a bit too...
Hi all, I'm just wondering what is people's preferred choice of set up with regards to DB's for a TT system within a domestic setting. I know there's different views on this (Type S uprfront etc). Are most people installing dual rcd boards or DP Rcbo's? Just looking for some views on this. Many...

Call out today, RFC dead in kitchen. Owner had switched all the switches on but rfc still off could not figure it out so called me to sort it. Looked everywhere, it was apparent there was another CU somewhere (to me) Owner insistent there was not as he knew the house and there was no way there...
