Evening all.
I may have to fit a weatherproof junction box to a hollow, round metal pole.
The junction box will be around 20-30cm from the ground and 2 x SWA will enter from the bottom (CW20). 1 x rubber flex will leave through the back of the JB into the pole and up to the top where the light...
I have a couple of lights on a circuit that does not have a CPC. The light fittings are plastic but they have a metal trim that screws into the plastic body.
I wonder if anyone can advise me if these are deemed as safe considering the main body of the light fitting is plastic and the metal trim...
Hi all,
I am hoping someone has already had this problem and can suggest a solution.
Last minute decision by client to have an electronic release on a door means we have to mount the power supply (bell systems 340c) on the wall in a public space so it needs to go in a metal enclosure.
PSU...

Obviously bs7671 governs us in our electrical trade, and to the 18th we will need to use metal clips in all areas where cables are surface mount. So do data/cctv engineers have to use metal clips ect to prevent from premature collapse and who governs them to do so?
Anyone know if there is a conduit strap available in UK market similar to this one:
One Hole EMT Conduit Strap, Steel, 1/2 in. | Garvin Industries - https://www.garvinindustries.com/hanging-and-support/cable-conduit-surface-mount/emt-one-hole-straps/ohs-50
I'm thinking for 20/25mm pvc conduit...
greetings :)
I’m taking a spur from a ring final.
A fused connection unit will be controlling the spur.
FCU will be mounted on a metal backbox flush in a brick wall.
I’m planning on using a junction box to break into the RFC, and taking the spur cable to the FCU.
My question is, do both cables...
I was just reading an interesting post about the 18th when the above was mentioned. there seems some debate about this. I initially thought that the idea of prohibiting the use of them was stupid, but I'm not sure now...
Anyone know of any clips that'll meet the expanded scope of new regs concerning clipping cables (not just trunking only clips). Have used D-Line ones just wondering if there were other options people had tried (obviously there are other things you can use other than clips, but my question is...
Scenario encountered:
New submain looks to have been taken from a PME supply in 4c 10mm SWA with no copper earth to a external metal feeder pillar.
The SWA has been glanded into new metal clad DB within the feeder pillar effectively incorporating it into the PME supply. A Earth has also been...
I hate metal blanks there I said it I simply do not see the point the cover should stay closed itself and if there were an internal fire the mcbs would melt and the fire would get no further than the metal lid what about earthing are you supposed to drill and bolt an earth onto the blank? Scrape...
Hi, i was just after a definitive answer of someone regarding if metal back boxes are to be earthed?
Ive had a look around and can't find a definitive answer, i was told by an experienced electrician i was assisting to earth them, then yesterday i was with another gaining some experience and...
my father recently bought a house and it has an ancient consumer unit fitted, next to the unit is a metal junction box which all the cables pass into and they are joined what i assume is the original wiring, all i can assume is that the consumer unit has been moved over and so the wires have...
Quick question, have a small caravan site to wire up.
Have 3 phase supply and TT earthing, 30ma RCD in each individual pods.
Was planning on using a 100ma type S incomer in the main DB to protect the sub feeds. ( this should stop a dodgy caravan tripping the whole site being 100ma time...

Hi everyone,
I am sitting my AM2 exam a week today and was wondering if the metal trunking, cable tray etc needs bonded back to the MET in the board?
Will you fail if its not bonded or will it be a minor?
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks.
The background: I'm building a rig for an engineering project to age polymers, using UV radiation and water cycles. The power supply, water pump and actuator (use not relevant) are controlled via an Arduino.
The rig has worked in the past with Infrared bulbs (for a different project). I'm now...
