1x32 AMP, 2x16 AMP 5kVA Portable Electrical Transformer

ive always wonder how these can run on a 13amp plug top

in theory 5va is around 40 amps at 110v, hence the 32amp socket (yes not continuous normally around 5-10 mins but even then surely asking for trouble)

how does it work then would of thought is would come with a commando plug

also i dont belive the weight is 15kg if so would think its rubbish as normally weighty = better quality

(im looking for a decent 110v tranny that can run around 3.5kw at 110v safely / decent length of time)

Got something in my shed have a look tomoz and update you

i have a 3.3 KVA one on a 13A BS1363 plug. the 13A fuse is fine but if plugged into a 16A circuit (type B MCB) the MCB trips on plug in. obviously inrush, before the inductance is seen.

The 5kVA is a 'tool rating' which in accordance with EN61558 is generally 25% duty cycle, 5 mins on load, 15 mins off load. The 5kVA tool rating corresponds to around 2.75kVA continuous rating, less than 13A allowing for the magnetising current. So if it's a continuous load you want to power, up to the transformer's thermal limit, there's nothing wrong with either the 32A socket or the 13A plug. If you happen to have a 5kVA tool load, which is not unreasonable, then the 13A plug is a bit daft as you say.

I've run little 1kVA trannies overloaded for longer than they should, sit them in big buckets of cold water.
