using this
15A SPDT Miniature Relay : Power Relays : Maplin Electronics

to enable me to switch some 230v lights on using a 12v switch. Can someone confirm the dc supply I need to operate the coil - it says 75ma for 12v coil resistance, does that mean I just need a transformer which gives out greater than that ie 300ma? Or does it depend on load (35w total)

Maplin tech dept is closed, will try in the morning, but I would imagine someone on here will definitely know.

thanks in advance

Ze

A transformer alone won't do you much good with a D.c coil relay.

Greater than 75ma supply is what's required.

In otherwords you need something like a small plug in 12v dc power supply. Anything above the rated current of the relay will be sufficient, like a 250 or 500ma. You'd be best using a relay with an integral diode across the coil to prevent back emf damaging the psu.

Thanks Sowhead - got a 12vdc 300ma power supply, was going to use that, 12vdc switching the coil via remote switch to bring in the relay & switch the 230v across, or am I way out there?
