Hi All Heard lots about this course mainly on here are there any non spark types that have done this course that can give me some thoughts on it and where i would stand .

I have done the cg 2377 and 17th edition s but my background is mainly IT i have however spent probably two or three years full time pat testing .

The code of practice wants all appliances tested including those which are 'fixed wired' to the mains rather than just those with a plug.I know this could be done by removing the wires and using a breakout type box to connect to the pat tester but surely a mft tester would be much easier.I think if i am going to comply with the cop then it follows that i need to be competent to do the isolation & testing safely.

oh i just signed up for the cg 2391 course.pity help me i think i will need it.

cheers 72-van

So your exp is mainly in the IT sector and you have just signed up for the 2391? PAT is kindergarten to 2391 testing... Have you worked on any domestic, commericial or industrial installs??? If not I think you will really struggle with 2391. How much did it cost?

You should have gone for 2392 course in my opinion and then 2391...massive leap for you to go straight to the 91

Agree with above. I did the 2391 after the 2330 level 2 & 3 17th edition etc and its no stroll in the park. Dont wish to put you off but plenty of revision is going be needed GN3 a must, 2391 success book & past papers

Yes i fully understand its a a huge huge ask but some-one else from a non spark background might have done this and may be able to give me valuable insights.
I have not worked on electrical installations be they domestic commercial or industrial.Whilst this may be a negative perhaps there could be a slight positive as i will have learned no bad habits and will work the way the examiner want to see.
As for cost believe its around the £600 mark .

I was a non spark when I sat it. Passed 2nd time is possibly but as stated plenty of revision....

I was kinda hoping for a wee bit help from the guys on the forum here to maybe answer a few questions that i might struggle getting my heed round.I fully realise just how big an ask this will be and WILL be making a serious commitment to time with this in an attempt not to embarrass myself to much.
I intend picking up a cheap mft to practice with .

I had thought to try any offer my time as free tea maker / sweeper up to try and get a little onsite practical time anyone close by me need a spare pair of handz ???

Hi Mr enigma

No i dont have a mft type tester yet

,i i have a couple of seaward europa plus's and agreed to by the lads pt300 that he had for sale on the megger 1553 thread.
(I put one of my europas up for sale :) to pay for it as i might be able to use the pt300 for facility management /data logging work if any comes along.

I have been bidding on really cheap mft's on the bay so that i can try and feel confident using one.

Read guidance note 3 till it makes you want to cry. Past papers, onsite guide and remember to use correct terminology in written test i.e. Line conductor instead of live conductor. Learn how to draw earth fault path diagrams for tt, tns, and tncs systems ect, which can be found at the front of the regs.

Looks like i need to find a cheap copy of this guidnace note three and get my nose stuck into it in a hurry. :) cheers for that bozza

Any one recommend any other book which will help course starts in a fortnight .

Our local college wouldn't have let someone with no experience sign up for the 2391.. but I guess they would be missing out on £600 (or the £360 the local college charges)
