Hi

Just wanted to ask if anyone has done the basic literacy and Numeracy test that you have to take to gain entrance to the Electrical Installation C&G Level 2 2330? I,m a mature student and hopefully going to be doing this at Barking and Dagenham College this September 2 evenings a week for 3 hours each.

Just wondering how easy or difficult these are. I'm also 36, has anyone done an evening course at this age?!

Many thanks

Tony

Basically a good understanding of maths is a no bad thing me I am lucky and older as I enjoyed maths but it is not everyones cup of tea I highlighted this a while a go when you go into a shop for a 3 and 3 and 2 lottery tickets and the person serving you has to use the till to work out the change from £10 so there is no doubting it the younger generation have got out the habit of numbers..

I was at college last year for 2377 II&TEE(PAT) and after 36 years it never goes away about that doubt so we have all been there

no wonder solicitors cost so much. probably needs a super computer to work out the tea kitty.

The basic literacy and Numeracy test is very basic. They won't ask you to calculate Pi to 30 digits or ask you to write a sonnet - it's more to separate the jokers from the pack. A lot of electricians are dyslexic, but you won't fare very well if you can't speak a word of English or count the fingers on one hand.

Judging by your post you should sail through.

I can just imagine the literacy test

1ce mo unto d breach, dEr friends, 1ce more;
o clOs d wall ^ w our eng ded.
n (-<-) there's Nuttin so becomes a mang
az modest stillness & humility;
bt wen d blast of wR blows n our ears,
thN imitate d actN of d tigR

For the benefit of the literate.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger

My daughter said I am no good at maths so when she went abroad she wanted a credit card in case of an emergency she also thought this was pretty neat ie cash on hand so I said to her would you pay £700 for a £400 tv she said no way I am not that daft i said well you are if you buy it on a credit card and pay the minimum.

Here endith the lesson she now understands the math

If your are worried about your maths, there is a good book: BTEC Mathematics for Techicians by A Greer and G W Taylor.

It is an easy book to follow. As for the course if you can do Pythagoras you will not have any problems.

I have never been any good at English; it hasn't stop me passing exams.

As for your age, wouldn't give it a second thought. Go for it.

If your worried about the basic maths entrance test then your going to crap your pants when you see some of the calcs you need to carry out when you get into your course, but the entrance test is a doddle.
