If I shouldn't be posting this I apologise but I thought it worth a try to get advice from the experts. I have a bathroom mirror which has a transformer, bulb and switch on the bottom. I was a bit worried about the switch due to wet hands etc but was told that if the switch is fed from the transformer which converts to 12v it is ok but not ok otherwise. What do you think?

Think yourself lucky over here in spain they have 230V sockets next to sinks & mains voltage metal spotlights with no earth connected with open terminal blocks behehind the mirror.

Next time you are in spain on holiday just have a look at the wiring.I have just had sent over from England an Insulation/continuity tester & a new RCD tester as I could not source them over here even though CEF have a branch at Benidorm, they had nothing as the spanish either dont use them or have no idea how to use them.

Might be an opportunity there for one of you entrepeneurial minded electricians to start up in the sun! If I was an ex pat in spain looking for a job done I'd be delighted to get my hands on a British trained (and speaking) sparky. Food for thought. (the shades look cool!) And by the way, Italy's not much better.
