I'm in my man-cave wondering why the weather is so cr@p on my week off. It's got me thinking about nerdy stuff. What will be the next generation of movie media, assuming it doesn't go 100% network format. VHS Tapes are huge. I know DVD's and Blu-Ray's are smaller, but they still take up quite a bit of space when there's loads of them. Then there's the annoyance of differed remote controls for each device which have to be set in the correct order before anyone can watch anything. Why not use Micro SD cards? Is the problem of not having a big enough spine to write the title on holding back this format?

If you've got a week off, why don't you make the most of it and do something productive.
Go swimming every day or something.
Maybe do some....DIY! Well, it's gotta get done some time, right?

I have been on nights for five months. Still trying to come to terms with the turmoil of being awake at night and sleeping during the day. Your right thou, I should do something more productive but first I have to overcome my cyberspace addiction.

the next movie media is already here - internet and hard-drives.
micro sd cards are a good idea tho , sd players would be the size of a smoke packet lol.

I don’t know for sure but I would imagine sd cards being more reliable than hard drives. The players could be incorporated into the TV. Can’t believe we haven’t moved into this sort of thing already.

I could never figure out why the Betamax had a half speed recoding facility. I know it doubled the length of its recording ability but it made a movie unwatchable. :hammer:

Used to work on tv video and the like do you remeber philips video 2000 video tape you coud turn over, Mini Disc, lazerdisk its all just rubish now but was some ones pride and joy at the time. I once spoke to a R+D man from a big electronics firm and he said they had 5 years worth of kit ready to sell now but held on to it so they could drip feed the market and get their money back so DVD Blueray and the rest are already dead but they need to make money.

well som did vhs. was termed lp. the bestest ever vcr i had was a phillips 2000. double sided tape. direct drive spools, no stretchy belts.

just seen your post , TC. remember the thorn 3500 colour tv chassis.? i made a bomb out of repairing them. them and the phillips G8, decca hybrid, korting. happy memories. always had a decent wad in the sky rocket.

No mate only just remember philips video 2000 never fixed one it was all sony panasonics and philips TVs by the time I started. Panasonic video recorders were great but a pain to work on you tell quality by the weight of unit.

As for the next stage for dvd's, blue ray, cd's, lap top and mobile music down loads I think is this:-

Once everyone has bought an internet tv they will get rid of any form of machine that plays a movie. You buy a film through your tv, the company (aka record shop) keeps a list of what you have purchased and you can watch any film you've bought from that tv set, so no more lending disc's.

Of course that means we will have to buy our collection again just like when vhs turned into compact disc. And every time you log onto your film library to watch Rocky VIII you will be bombarded with advertisements for the latest movies etc. It's already happening with new companies like netflix and just wait until the big boys like Sony want a piece of the action.

Why wait for customers to come to your shop when we can install a shop in the customers homes?

Mark my words, it will happen and sooner than you think.

The very reason I don’t have sky. There is nothing more irritating than when you watch one of your favourite programs and it’s constantly interrupted by advertising. Your probably right though. The ability to brainwash the masses with junk together with our inability to copy and lend out someone else’s copyright material will be the driving force. So the sd card idea is pretty much dead in the water!

I have been think the same as you, internet TV's with a few Terrabit harddrives or solid state and thats it. With iTunes and apple TV we are already there as far as a digital database and viewer goes.

The very reason i record every program so i can watch it later and fast forward through the adverts.
