Hi Guys,
I'm currently looking at purchasing a multimeter but browsing online the price varies from under £10 to hundreds. Can anyone recommend a decent multimeter around £50 - £60 or would I need to fork out £100 plus?

Your experienced advise will be much appreciated.

Multimeter or MFT?

Look at brands like Uni-T if you want something on a tighter budget that will work reliably.

Not an MFT just a multimeter for now anyway. I'm currently doing my portfolio city and Guilds 2357 leading to the am2 and slowly trying to get equipment together.

I will check brand Uni-T out, thank you for your comments.

The Megger AVO410 is a lot of functions, for the money. Remember, you will probably end up changing MFT's more regularly than this type of meter,so the money spent, goes further.

There are plenty of cheap items, out there, with rakes of functions, but you may not use their radio, compass and -----thermometer

A built-in spirit level would be good! I use the app on my phone (yes, I know, and I'm over 60!) but it slipped and fell down the wall cavity...I was able to phone it and could see it lighting up and hear it ringing, but it took a bit of creative gyproc-carving to retrieve it...
and who needs to check that an attic JB is level???

Fluke 177 - Not the cheapest, but great quality and if looked after will last forever. (Or in my case bashed about, used everyday, replaced the internal fuses a few times, dropped in puddles, dropped from height still going strong 8 years later and has passed calibration every 6 months without adjustments being needed).

contact megger in dover. see if they have any stock of discontinued multimeters going cheap.

You'd be better off getting a clamp mater that also does continuity and voltage readings.
