Hi all,

picked up a callout earlier today for next week that I'm sure is the same job I've read on here a little while ago, or if not then it's very similar. I've done a manual traul of the last 4 weeks of general forum, plus a few search strings but no results. I don't think I commented on it so it's not in my personal list.

Does this ring any bells with anyone? : RCD tripping on a kitchen ring installed a while ago (or may be a new board), has intermittent problems with the microwave and a kettle but the customer has bought a new kettle and it's still happening. My memory is thinking that it had Electrical Trainee written all over it.

Then again, I might just be imagining the whole thing!

Could be, but that is a very popular call these days, what with the '17th edition consumer unit'.
I had a good quantity of shouts like that myself when I was on the tools.

What made it stick out in my mind was the fact that the OP was on a call-back to it and the board change had been a year before.

It doesn't really matter, it's just the irony (if it IS that post) of getting asked to sort out one of the messes that we're always whinging about in here! My guess from before looking at the job is that there's probably just a loose connection or a plate screw has nicked a cable. There again, could be a real fire-starter - who knows?!

I remember one what said the rcd only trpped when he plugged in the brand new dryer. Even with the dryer on its own it tripped. Everyone thought it was the brand new dryer but it turned out to be a faulty rcd. Not sure if this is the one.
There does seem to be alot of rcd tripping questions lately thought!!

And it's only likely to get worse! It's not hard to get right, but a lot easier to get very wrong, so when you've DIY'ers and their Electrical Trainee cousins doing board changes and the like, without doing tests beforehand (or even knowing what to actually go testing for)....then a nice obedient RCD is going to do the tests for them. Never mind though, they always seem to know how to short them out.
