Basically i'm getting my pants pulled down on some re-wires i know it the customer knows it(and smiles) but work
is tight and i'll have to do them to pay them bills. Where can i get the cheapest accessories, i wont be going any
cheaper than wylex with consumer unit(although they are gash now) but need to cut costs somewhere.

Cheers guys

If you look online you can get bulk deals, ive seen some where if you buy 50 double sockets(volex for example)they work out at about £2 each,it may sound a lot and probably is when cash is tight, but bulk buying on your usual bits, spurs and 1g and 2g switches also, after spending say £300-£400 you should of made some profit on these after enough rewires, and i know that people are charging silly prices so it does make what i would say is a reasonable price look like a rip off to the consumer.

I use the new Denmans "Designa Curve" range, it has double sockets for 99p each, decorative metal from £3.55, all with a 25 year warantee!

We are taking cheap, customer expecting a 3 bed re-wire with cooker and fan cored out for £1400. just the way things are at the moment.

those are the sort of customers you don't want. £2400 is more realistic.

Toolstation do a contractor pack of 50 twin switched sockets for about 30 odd quid. I have fit loads in rental properties, and have never been back to a faulty one yet.

I dont see much point in trying to save pennies on cheaper accessories in the present climate

Just looked at a kitchen/bathroom and priced it at 800 to include testing the existing house
A local niceic approved contractor priced the full rewire at £ 1,180 all in and without seeing the job, no testing of existing because his employees dont have the know how,the customer phoned them to confirm whilst I listened in on the phone speaker

This was quite a large 3 bed terrace house with a kit/bathroom extension

His labourers must be on very low wages to do this sparks job,its not worth trying to go too low to compete if it doesn't provide a living wage
Domestic work has been shared out to non electricians to such an extent that it will be too low a wage for sparks if it continues

The Niceic Qs system at its best once again, surely it should be banned in the domestic sector.they and they alone are the main culprits of the demise of the trade in the domestic sector

I was going to suggest Toolstation's cheap stuff too, it's what I always use when a customer doesn't care about aesthetics or it's in a rented property or the likes. I always give them a 'warning' about the longevity of crap equipment mind.
Most of the stuff they send me is CED, and it's good enough for what you pay.

cpc's "pro elec" stuff should satisfy anyones thirst for cheap pant crap (CPC , get it?). You'll need the skill of a consultant surgeon to screw them to the wall without cracking. Thats assuming the rocker mechanism works in the switch. or the neon.

Pants.

now THATS cheap :-)

I use GET stuff. pay about 1.25 a double socket and I consider it a reasonable quality item for stock rewires.

Fitted quite a few of the ced sockets, spurs & switches today along with surface mount boxes and mini trunking all ced, supplied by the customer from toolstation, for the money they were all ok.
I would use them myself if doing a job where money was tight.

Cheers for all your comments i've looked a denmans and the quality really wasn't that bad for the price. Work is tight at the moment round here. Seriously thinking of going cards in with anyone, probably be better off.

I have found CED, Cu and RCBO's cheap

If you can sell the customer to a full RCBO board you maybe able to get some margin there

I have fiited 4 CED dual rcd boards in the last month and I have to say they have all been perfect for what they cost (toolstation) and as supasparxs says you can make a few quid on suppling them.

They are a heap of tosh, but they work!

CED doubles from toolstation are 1.78 each but don't use a plug adapter for you testing, shockingly high results

I use Hager double sockets, around £2 plus vat.

For the sake of a few pence why put in crap?

Mind you- if the client is price conscious I offer the option of labour only and they can provide the materials

Let those fools that want to bankrupt themselves get on with it. There will always be those naive enough to work for next to nothing, but they can't do it for long. If you try to undercut them, they will undercut you, and you will find yourself in a Dutch auction before you know it. Every 10 or so years we go through this. As these idiots get bored, or go out of business, prices rise back to normal. For a 3 bed rewire in the NW, this should be around £2.5k to £3.5K. It's got nothing to do with greed or rip-off, it's just about simple business maths. Anything less than this is unsustainable. Why do you think cheap accessory manufacturers are offering 25 year guarantees? They know that the cheap electricians buying them will be out of business within months. It's just a sales gimmick.
