evening all!

I've been asked to repair door entry systems in several properties, for a professional landlord.

Want to give it a good go, as he has loads of properties and good connections throughout that line of business, and I reckon he'll be a good punter.

I've looked at bellsystems website and downloads, and I'd be quite happy to get some pointers for other websites that might be helpful?

is it just a case of crack on and pick it up as you go along? or are there any specific tips / tricks of the trade?

thanks in advance!

take some 6 core or 8 core alarm cabe, and make sure you have a meter that reads 12v/24v d.c. as well as a.c.

i've looked at one property already, and concluded that the cable between door bell / speech unit and handset in flat needs rewiring, as no joy belling out cores x2.

had a look at the wiring diagrams on the website, and don't think a separate cable is needed to each flat? so could possibly avoid some rewiring of longer runs?

or is it advisable to wire separately?

i usually use 1 cable per flat with extra cores easier for fault finding also can easily isolate any flat if required due to smashed up handsets or no access

check what make it is,every one is specific regards its wiring, once you have the diagrams it makes fault finding easy,as the alarm thread collect as many manuals as you can, your stuck without the manuals

,we doing cables for videophone system in a building at present moment, youl have a central point where all cables come back too. running a cat 5 from each apartment/office/whatever to central point then from that central point to the main doors with a voice in and voice out on outside(2x cat5) and a cat5 to inside main doors for getting out and one to maglock and then all conections are terminated to the sytem plan which i dont think il get to see but know the basics for now, oh and the intruder alarms for each flat/office shop front is linked into videophone ... so... take from this what you can but im sure this is the first thing you learnt about these

Cat 5 is not a good method of wiring for door entry systems, you will be back a forth repairing broken cables.
Best cable to use is Beldon stranded twisted pair, basically a stranded cat 5 with screen for low loss.
There are two methods of wiring 5 core cable to each flat, or networked 2 core looped into every flat. The latter 2 core is the best to fit, on 2 core install from ground to to floor, the node juctions split on each floor to all flats...video can also be used on the same 2 core. Main manufactures are Comelite, Bell, Easy2, Fermex, Videx
