Hi.

Looked at a job this morning for remedial work on an EICR. The inspection has noted the plastic consumer unit within the hallway cupboard and given it a C2 rating citing regulation 422.2. The flat is on the second floor so the hallway would be the primary means of escape for the occupants.

Otherwise though it's in fine condition and sited behind a fire door in a cupboard.

What is the definition of an escape route? I can't believe that this small hallway meets the criteria as specified under reg 422.2

What do you think?

(update) I have since bothered to look further into this. Seems regulation 422.2 and the changes under amendment 2 are referring to 'protected escape routes' As the flat hallway isn't one of these then it wouldn't apply in this instance so is not a C2.

Thanks

The IET don't seem to want anyone to post a link, so I've had snip it as an image.

Since when is a plastic consumer unit a potential danger when its electrically safe.
potential danger examples, over sized protective device, loss of continuity of cpc, high Zs readings etc
anything giving rise to electric shock in a fault condition. Or risk of fire!
Plastic consumer units with good electrical connections do not just combust!

It would be a c3 and that's only if it's in escape route.
