Thought i would post that i failed my 309 written exam.

As did half the class. College tutor had a go at us and said he covered everything.

But what i think he failed to realise that when you have the brainy lads talking all the way through any explanation how is a dumbass like me going to remember anything?

He wasnt impressed with the scores even though we are ahead of the 3rd years!

Sorry to hear that, mate. :( Any idea which bits you struggled with? Let us know, Then perhaps some folks on here can help you out a bit. No substitute for college, but might help...?

Just everything. I dont seem to keep ahold of any information when i start the tests. So frustrating. Any tips on holding information would be helpful....

Science and Principles.

Do you go college in the evenings or day release........ i did mine 2 evenings per week and after a days graft the last thing i wanted to do was poxy maths etc and i struggled to remember alot of it.
Revise would be my best advice and if there is someone who keeps jibering on in the classroom then tell them to shut the ### up as you are there to learn.
I had 2 or 3 like that in my class and they drove me mental but when it came to the practical they were all quiet then and up sh## street with it all.
Ask your tutor questions as after all that is what there payed for !!

1 day a week release from work.

Tell them to **** off most weeks. Seems to be 1 that starts it.... Usual crap.

Seems funny how he passes and the others he's talking to failed. But there we go.

I know its the hardest written exam and i shouldnt be beating myself up but its just so crap when you think you've revised enough then get to a test n forget it...

I expect Mike will let people go through the paper to see where they went wrong. I agree mate remembering all the info is the hard bit, I got caught out on some of it so i just flicked through the paper and answered questions in a completely random order and came back to stuff after so as not to look at it too long and get mind blank.

Worth remembering that Neutral formula i have posted up mate in another thread in here.

I know mate, exactly what i did. Olly didnt attempt half the questions and i got less!! So .......... Ahhhhh!!!

Yeh just reading through the post now

Well if its any consolation at least you have an idea what to revise for now and the possible questions they may throw at you....... good luck fella

Right, get hold of as many past papers as you can and anything that you're struggling with stick up on here with the answers that you reckon are right.
That way we can help you because just now all we know is that you've duffed the exam and that doesn't help anyone. Least of all you mate.

Yeah trev is right poult give us an idea of what you think you got wrong...... science and principals is a big subject mate.

Dont feel too bad Poult, you have failed a 3rd year exam and you are a 1st/2nd year student!

I have got a few things on file I think, post them up tonight when home from work, just tell us what areas you need.

Heres two question i struggled to even answer.

Explain how the split phase effect is achieved in an induction start single phase motor?

Provide a diagram & describe short circuit on a HRC cartridge fuse.

Heres a diagram for the Fuse

Ermmmm..... Ermmmmm...... dunno next question. pmsl
I have forgotten most of this stuff now since leaving college and that was just a few years back.

Quite possible...

Next bit is - i dont understand Star n Delta.
Tried multiple times to get my college tutor to go through it more but just doesnt seem to get round to it.

Without sounding like an absolute idiot - this may need spoon feeding.

don't feel bad mate we did the 309 written 2 weeks ago at my college and only 8 people out of 68 passed mate and the highest score was 66% which was my score, some of the questions we had not even covered it was a bit of a **** up mate just keep revising mate get a few mock exams and you will be fine

With Star the Line voltage is 1.732 x the Phase voltage. So Phase to star point voltage is 230v. Multiply the 230v by 1.732 and that gives us the line voltage of 400v. (VL = 1.732 x Vp). The Phase current and Line current are the same in Star so (IL = Ip)

With Delta the Phase voltage and the Line voltage are the same so (VL = Vp). The Line current is 1.732 x the Phase current so (IL = 1.732 x Ip)

:)
