Got called out to a job because the gas meter had been moved and the gas installer had said that the gas bond needed relocating , when I said that the gas bond was ok were it was ( about 1 meter away from the gas meter) the gas man said it didn't comply with regs as it had to be within 600mm of the meter I then said or as practicably possible to which he said if it wasn't there he would have to issue a non conformance notice and informed the customer then demanded it to be moved , my arguement is , how can the gas guys tell us where to put things that we are installing not them!

is the new meter position outside? it's 600mm from where the pipe enters the building, irrespective or where the meter is.

I always thought it was 600mm or as close as practicably possible,
No tel the meter is inside just further down the wall,

Does it really matter over 400mm? I certainly wouldn't code it, maybe an observation if I was feeling consciencious, which isnt often.

No it doesn't really matter except the plumber was argueing with me over it and telling me how to do my job! If they ever installed the bonds then fair enough but it's us that put them in!

He moved the meter causing the problem so (only in my personal opinion) he should also extend/move the clamp or pay for it to be done!

i priced a job the other day where the gas meter has been moved to the outside, in a meter box. they had run a 10mm bonding cable from the old position, straight pas the boiler and where the gas pipe enters the house, 12 ft. through a roof void, then thrown across 15ft outside in the yard, not clipped or anything, to the gas meter.

When I asked him for a reason for it to be 600mm from the meter he argued that it was so he could see it easily when doing a safety inspection and so e didn't have to search the house for it!!

as a gas engineer it should be as near as practicable and preferably not further the 600 mm and before any branch in the installation pipework , as per our regs

It should be a reg that anyone who messes with meters is responsible for ensuring the bonding is correct, sparky, gas or water man. No joint is allowed when looping bond from one service to another.

to be pedantic, you're not allowed to use the screw clamp on the BS951 as a joint between cables. this is so that mr wet-head , when disconnecting a gas bond, does not disconnect the water bond as well ( or vice versa )

I usually run seperate ones but I I don't I will only strip the insulation and loop it through!
