I have recently completed my Part P training and propose to use upgrading my consumer unit to 17th Edition requirements and rewiring my kitchen as the specimen job for joining Elecsa with the express purpose of gaining self certification status as a competant person. I have hit a snag in that EDF energy require £55.00 for pulling the mains fuse and more importantly an EIC before they replace it. Since I cannot self certify until I am a member of an approved scheme and that in order to become one need to be assessed I fail to see how to resolve this chicken & egg situation.

Can anyone help me out on this one.

Thanks in advance

his problem is that DNO want to pull the fuse then expect him to do the job and certify it without a supply.

Cutting to the chase, I cannot issue an EIC until I am a member of a competant person scheme (or can I in this instance using standard forms downloaded from IET?)

Being in a scheme has nothing to with certifying electricial installations

If you dont certify, ie produce an eic, then you could fail your assessment

When the fuse astronauts have pulled the fuse
Do the tests that can be done and give that to the dno
When you have the juice back on complete the tests not carried out example the rcd tests

Ordinarily, a copy of an EIC is given to the consumer in this case me, and the contractor keeps a copy but submits details through their professional body to building control as this is a notifiable project. EDF are not part of this equation so can I assume they just need one to cover their backsides?

have you checked that the seal hassn't fell off beforehand?

Are you trying to give a hint that removing the fuse oneself, and doing the job without informing the Dno, and then testing and re energising whilst taking the view that if ever anyone questioned the absence of seals, then you would deny all knowlege

If thats so,shame on you Tel

DNO's do my head in.

What are they worried about???

Probably the fact that they may have to come back AGAIN and renew the MSF if you blow it.:banghead:
