Hi i was wondering when you install GU 10 downlighters do you use the little fartly connection block they give you or do you just connect the lap holder into a small 20 amp jb?

If you use the small jb's how do you go about connecting the earth to the downlighter? Is there any need to earth the downlighters?

Cheers

I've started using a product from CLICK called FLOW connectors. They're a blue plastic connector with 4 terminals for loop in/out and switched lives. They also plug in so you can fit one half on 1st fix or disconnect the lamp prior to IR testing easily. Don't usually earth the downlighter not usually an earth terminal available to do it.

Niceone mate thanks for that, well theres that metal strip that u fix onto the side on the downlighter with the connection box on it isnt there? I find it a pain in the arse so i just rip it off and use small brown 20amp jb's and connect the lamp holder directly into it i find it fast and easy, just wanted to know if i should have been connecting the earth.

Thanks for the reply mate

i put a short length of hr flex then jb be careful jb is away from fitting iwet to job and the jb was a big blob of melted plastic!!

if the downlight doesnt have an earth block then i wire up into J210s which are small JBS. i connect the earhs in the JB then just run a bit of 2core flex from the JB to the downlight, this way still keeps earth continuity and makes wiring the downlight a piece of cake as you only have to install the 2core flex. if the downlight has an earht block then i just use 3core flex or a bit of T+E instead of the 2core
