Hi,

Got two board changes this week and one next, all need new bonding.

You know when you go to do a board change and it needs new bonding, the whole house is immaculately decorated etc and the water stop tap is on the other side of the house.

Gow do YOU go about hooking it up? I know how to do it, but what do you usually do when it's miles away from the consumer unit?

Does anyone ever take it outside just clipped then back in?

Just wondering really to see if I'm missing a trick.

you can take it outside, maybe in pvc tube, sometimes bond to an accessible place on the pipework that's away from the point of entry if you can't practically get close. then with a wander lead do a continuity test from the bond to the stop tap/gas meter. fine unless some wet-pants comes along ad bodges in some plastic crap.

Just as a matter of interest UK, what size is the current bonding?

What you could do, which I've seen, is drill a hole in a floorboard near the CU and lift it. Get a lump of 10mm (or what ever size is appropriate) tie a knot in it and terminate it in the CU. The other end, bring it in through a bit of pipe boxing using the same method.
People will look at it and think it's bonded.
NB, This is something I've seen. Not something I've ever even considered doing.

The basic 2/3/4 bed house in this area tends to have hollow floors downstairs everywhere except the kitchen. Gas and electrics under the stairs and water under the kitchen sink.

Soo you can usually shoot the 10mm earth under the ground floor until you get to the kitchen wall. Then pop up in the kickspace under the kitchen units and along to under the sink.

Or if you are lucky there is 6mm main bonding already there and in good condition/no signs of any damage so the most you have to do is reterminate it if the end is a bit manky.
