afternoon guys

customer has ordered a inline ceiling mounted fan from bathstore for her ground floor new shower room
am I right in thinking- without access from above (tiled floor) and her not wanting a access panel cut out near the ceiling mounted fan- having a inline is a nono as when the motor finally dies- your screwed?

any past experiences?

Pretty much as its not ideal. Is there an airing cupboard or the like in or next to the bathroom that the fan could be mounted in?

Daft purchasing decision IMHO. Best you suggest she sends it back for a refund...

Unless you install it like this:

ES Fan 1.jpg

This is in the loft of a house - and the light in the ground floor cloakroom triggers it. The vent you see goes outside!

The 2nd picture is of the fan for the bathroom - not connected to the vent in the bathroom, not venting outside and if it was connected it would be blowing air into the bathroom!

I think this is one of the few times I would have to say 'no' to the customer. I cant see how you could have a fan hidden under the floorboards (with no access to all the terminations for maintenance).

I'd be looking for a way to bring the ducting up through the first floor (perhaps airing cupboard or at the least boxed in) and situate the fan in the loft and hopefully vent it out through the eaves, I would use a centrifugal in line fan in this case to take account of the longer ducting run. Better still, I'd use a wall mounted extractor fan if there was an outside wall in the shower room.
