Hi all, I've got some mev ( ducting from wet rooms, kitchen to loft via fan then expelled to atmosphere)
done a few so know the crack etc, however was supposed to be doing one today but no hole saw on site (gutted)
so I planned routes for tomorrow, and with the layout of the ceilings etc, the most direct route to the loft for the downstairs wc is up through a timber clad first floor kinda balcony. The joiners could quite easily create a little void to hide a 5" ducting pipe. My only concern really is it is a lot more outside than the interior pipe work if you know what I mean, essentially behind weatherproof wood cladding. If I made sure the duct is well insulated would this be viable? Only other option would mean lowering two ceilings to get past rsj and dble rji joists etc!

any comments appreciated :-)

If the duct is well insulated I.e. insulated duct surrounded by insulation and there is not any heat recovery going on then you should be OK.
But this is just my off the cuff opinion from a non expert.

as long as you use the insulated solid ducting where it needs to be shouldn't be a problem. A dropped ceiling would look awful. The joiners should insulate the void anyway. When i do fan testing and airflow certs the fans are never expelling to the recommended amount but i just make up the result as their only try to expel the scent of turd or the steam from a shower. Crack on i say!

All pipe work from each room has to go to the loft and connect to a fan. Best I could do insulation wise is wrap space blanket round my plastic pipe and rock wool the void, just mev no heat recovery so should be gravy fingers crossed
