^^^ On my apprentice. He had his "experience" time with me, although it was short it was valuable to him. It some how kicked him into another gear and he wants to push himself to do the level 3, nvq3 and 2391. Brilliant.

My boss has landed a national contract (long as he don't f-up on the invoices) and it will be for the next few months+. He gave me the option of 2 lads with no mention of the lad ive spent a lot or time and effort into. Told him I want Matthew because he can run circles around the other two and they have more quals but no common sense, no get up and go, can't do basic stuff etc etc etc. Not only have I got him a full time (subby) job with an extra quid per hour than what the boss wants to pay, ive got a young man that wants to work and knows what he is doing, everyone is a winner.

Atm we are doing shop display light fittings in the north east. He f-up and broke a ceiling tile so the next shop/job I made him do the ladder work and tomorrow he can finish it off.

He's a great young electrician with a brilliant attitude, I'm getting him to sign up to the forum so he can learn from much better people than myself, I'll tell you who he is once he signs up.

Them's beasty steps mate!

I think they got nicked from Teeside airport lol. Any higher than that it has to be platforms. I'll make him wear 6 inch platform boots so he can reach ha ha ha. btw he's taller than me so if I can't reach, he goes up (most of the time, that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it, its works.

obviously no H&S blokes on site!

suicidal.

I posted that photo to show dangerous working at heights, I knew I'd get pulled on it. The photo was taken just before I shouted at him for not doing what I told him, hold on the rail with one hand and test chop stick style on the open term block. He has learnt his lesson for today.

Going back to that store tomorrow to do a temporary short term fix until a timescale when we can install (safely) a perm fix with a scissor lift.

Buying him a beer or 3 atm and going over todays work, mostly good apart from the ladders and breaking a bloody ceiling tile, prat.

In February. Don't know what rest of the stores are like but if its the same as this I'm walking away until another day.

I didn't believe the manager when he said they hang the "sale" signs using that ladder at the same heights!!! No win no fee in the predictable future for the staff.

btw get him signed up :) welcome in advance.

also on the ar$e kicking front that pic spells a thousand bad images. my mate nearly lost his arm and he fell from a bloody darlik stool.
get him a hard hat and super glue the dam thing on if necessary

don`t let him use that one for his NVQ. thank god no one popped in for a surprise visit. I have been guilty myself of doing things at work that i should not have being myself. another one to think about though Paul is that your the guy that will get it in the neck if anything bad happens mate so cover your back and make sure you have ticked all the boxes.

As for the ladders and danger
So many live in the H+S bubble that a piddling little problem like the ladders not being high enough, would be easily overcome with the correct size milk crate on the top, Im sure they will loan you one for now

Small ladders wedged onto the top of much higher ones can sometimes be shaky,so best have someone holding the rungs firmly when balancing on the top tread if 2 in tandem are used, lol

Yes Phil very funny :). Last week I was drafted to make the bloody things in the factory (rigging up the drivers and led's + half of the chuffing cases) and this week and many others I'm installing them nation wide. Funny old world.

As for the h+s in this pic its goes against a lot of it that's why we just made safe the bare end of a flex (reachable for staff hanging signs) and had an early finish.

Iv posted in another thread about a shopping trip where I HAD to ask store manager to stop sign contractor from carrying out work as it was well dangerous her answer was " hes not my employee" I then asked if she knew much about HSAW then reminded her of the best 2 lines in it "by your acts or OMMISIONS" and Responcible for your health and safety and that of those around you
