OK this was a question when i was at collage 28 years ago and just want to see your replies.

How do you take the earth loop of an immersion heater.

I will post the results of how our class did after i see some of the results and i know some of you will die laughing when the story is told.

go into a wholesalers
ask them to show yuu an immersion heater
strick your probes on it

college
innitt

Seeing as it appears to be a leading question and that there were some obvious funny answers I will hazzard a guess that one of your classmates put "With A Screwdriver"......?

come on guys i want your serious answers on how you personally would test an immersion heater circuit earthloop ?

What do you want people to say?

Isolate supply.
Remove conductors from element.
Connect crocs and carefully position safely.
Energise circuit.
Press button.
Note reading.
Isolate supply.
Reconnect.

Get told off for working live.
Do it at the switch next time.

well....theres always the by calculation method of course....

Ok remembering this was 28 years ago and not all the fancy test equipment like we have now all but me went down the route of plugging in the loop tester in to the nearest socket and put the earth probe on to the earth of the immersion.
I stated i would get the Ze from the supplier measure the R1 and the R2 and add all three.
the really maddening part is i was told i was wrong and everyone else was right, i had to take it over the instructors head to get the problem resolved. i was just interested to see what you all would put as replies but thanks anyway i don't know what made me think back to it anyway lol .

you could get some good flashes if the earth probe didnt make a good connection, used to use that way for a well-known testing company years ago, madness now when i think back on it.
