Hi Guys.

I get some work doing EIRC's from a local estate agent and an Elecsa registered. A a few weeks ago I did an EIRC for a guy who was buying a house and getting it mortgaged through the Leeds BS, well to cut a long story short the Leeds would not accept it as they say I am not NICEIC registered. However when I rang Elecsa they informed me that there is now no difference between the two companies and that both banks and building societies should be accepting reports for either registered bodies. Has anybody else had this issue?

Thanks in advance

Victor

phone elecsa and tell them to get onto the leeds. they will tell them in no uncertain terms that it's restrictive practice .

Plus the fact that you don't need to be with a scheme to carry out an Eicr, as long you can prove you are competent.

You dont have to be "registered" with anyone to carry out a EICR, so go back the people who say your EICR "carries no substance " and ask them why.

The eirc was requested by the Leeds but paid for by the guy buying the house. To be fair the Leeds had told him that it had to be done by an electrician who was registered with NICEIC, but when I rang Elecsa they told me that as they are now one company there should be no discrimination between the two bodies and that the Leeds should not be favouring the NIC. I was just wondering if anyone else has come across this situation.

IMG_3082 (1).jpg It's common , as Tony said it depends who is asking for the report. Around here most estate agents as well as insurance companies ask for Nic . I think that is because it's the only one the have heard of.
Here is a clip of a letter a take away owner showed me with regard to his premises.

I was asked to do an EICR on a chip shop last year for their insurance, the letter from them stated that you MUST (was in capitals) be registered with the NICEIC to carry out such a report, spent an hour on the phone trying to explain what the nic actually are and what the requirements for a person carrying out an EICR actually are to 3 different jobsworths before I gave up and told the customer he had to find someone else.
Also, fitted a bathroom fan today and it had a sticker on the box saying it must be fitted by a 'part p qualified NICEIC registered electrician' did have to chuckle as I threw the box in the skip.

I have had similar in the past.
Usually a phone call to the Insurance company sorts it out.

I don't understand this at all. There is no requirement anywhere for Part P provider involvement for issuing EICR's, and even if there were, what's the bloody difference between any of them, apart from a name??

If i was registered with say Nappit (or whatever they are called) and received a letter from a client saying they don't recognise them, i'd aim the correspondence at Nappit and tell them to get it sorted it out or i won't be renewing my membership. Bit pointless paying one of these scams if they can't even authenticate themselves!!!!

Yes as you point out Part P does not cover inspections.
However many LABCs and Insurance companies have historically required such inspections to be conducted by persons registered with the NICEIC, and are only now accepting reports conducted by people registered with other schemes.
This is not because those schemes have anything to do with inspections, but simply because they are Government approved.
