Hello Guys.

Hope you can help.

I need to relocate some WiFi Wireless Access Points in a secure Hospital.
You are not allowed to take phones in so I won't be able to use Bluetooth on a phone to work with some common locators such as Tile, Apple Airtag etc.

Essentially I'm looking for a device (a transmitter and receiver) that will let me do the following ....
Ask my colleague to position himself at ground level in a Ward at the exact point where we need to move the WAP to.
I'll be in the loft needing to locate & zero in on my colleague who ideally will be standing directly below me on the ground floor.
That way I will know where to move the device in the loft.

Hope this makes sense .... this is a large place and the Maps are atrocious.
Also we aren't allowed to do much banging on ceilings as this upsets the patients on the wards.

Thanks

Mick

Not exactly sure if the WAP is going in the loft or below in the room but a simple method to locate yourself would be to use a light fitting. Where possible i pop a light fitting so that it shines a little into the loft and then go looking. You know then you are in the right room and can measure from that location to where you want to fit stuff.
Hope this helps..

A similar idea that I've used in large buildings is to (with permission) remove a smoke detector head and stick a cable rod up, then replace the head. This effectively creates way-points for me to follow in the loft.

A tape measure will often get you within a foot if you can spot anything that references the same upstairs and down.
think, outside walls, chimney breasts, flue pipes, soil stacks etc.
