if gas and water main are adjacent to each other, is it still acceptable to run 1 x 10mm to both as long as there is no break in the cable?

In a word, yes!

Ideally run to the water first, then to the gas.

Could you unpack that a bit for us lesser mortals? Why is it safer to do the water first? Thanks.

We sometimes do that but which ever you run to first double the 10mm up into the same crimped lug, then if its ever disconnected you still have an earth path back to mains.

As above really, that if the gas supply got disconnected in the future and the pipes removed then the water will still be bonded.

However, if the gas was done first then to the water, if the bonding cable to the gas was cut to get it out of the way then you have lost the bond to the water.

The property will always need a water supply, but not always gas.

I always send two cable regardless of the distance between services.. Seems to make more sense i think.. And dont mention expense...

Dan ,point taken, but i don,t see, if both services are together and the 10mm is in the same crimp lug, is there a reg that says thats a no no, if so i am wrong and will amend in future.

Perfectly acceptable to run one.

Just dont cut it between services!!
