Has anyone ran 14.4v makita tools on 18v batteries
I think they fit each other
could I wreck my drill by doing this?
An extra 3.6 volts can't do any harm, can it...

I spoke to a guy on site about Makita 18V kit and he showed me one of his 18V batteries running a 14.4V impact driver.
He made a slight modification to the casing of either the drill or the battery, can't remember which though. He said he'd been using it for some time without any issue.
Personally, I'd use the correct gear.

That reminds me. Makita do a nice little SDS+ drill, BHR162Z, only available in 14.4V. Looks really handy for rawlplug holes in hard brick. If I thought that I could get one to work with my 18V batteries I'd be tempted to buy one. I guess you could get away with it provided you didn't stall the drill or work it too hard.

It does, but I already have the BHR241 which, with the rear handle, needs two hands to get it started. So the BHR162 looked just right for use up a ladder.

Makita have been reporting an increase in 14.4V motor related motor warranty claims, which they are now treat sceptically as they are aware of many users powering 14.4V tools from 18V battery packs. Service centres have been advised to check all tools sent for repair for modifications that might allow dual powering.
