Discuss Meter Tail upgrade? in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

Dear all,

I consistently get good advice from the forum so pushing my luck with yet another question, I have just replaced the CU at home prior to an Elecsa assessment in a couple of weeks, all has gone well and I'm nearly done, however, I would like to know if I should be upgrading the present 16mm meter tails to 25mm tails (which seem huge!). The on site guide is slightly confusing as it seems to infer it is the responsibility of the electricity supplier. For background the present installation is all in new colour wiring and approx 4 years old.

Thankyou for any replies

Hi Down2earth
The incomming meter tails are the DNO's but the outgoing are the customers. 25mm outgoing meter tails same for bonding etc upgrade if undersized then you wont go far wrong. 16mm main cpc and bonding to water/gas 10mm cpc.
Good luck with assessment !

Where I work we fuse at 80amp even if there is 16mm meter tails.60amp is reserved for meter tails via an outside metering box.

And don't go cutting those meter seals!

I have a selection of seals in my tool box, just incase I come accross a fuse that is unseeled.............God forbid

if you look on certain auction sites you will find lockwire crimp sets that will allow an everyday joe to replace the lockwire and seal. OBVIOUSLYYYY you should never ever ever ever use one of these as it will look like the electricity company put this on when clearly they haven't.....
i'm only pointing out what an unscrupulous person would do:D

as monkeyelectric states just type in meter seals in the auction site and you will find them.
look at it this way; i carry one so if i come across an installation with no lockwire seal i feel its my duty to protect the customer:rolleyes: by fitting a lockwire to prevent them pulling the main fuse out and killing themselves by touching the incomers with no protective device between them and the substation.
thats my excuse and i'm sticking to it...!:D
