Hi,
New to the forums.

Bit of background:

I'm in my 40's and I've recently been made redundant after working in a service industry job for years.
Bit of a blessing as the gloss had worn off a while ago.
To keep busy while job hunting I've spent some of my time working with a local builder who is a mate, converting my dear old aging mum's garage into a downstairs bedroom for her as she's starting to struggle with the stairs - and I've really enjoyed it.

So I'm looking to take some of my redundancy money and invest in taking my career in a new direction, and electrical work appeals to me the most.

I'm not quite rich enough to go to college full time, so I'll need to find a P/T course to fit in with work.
I've missed the boat for enrolment at most of the colleges near me for this year - except for one college which is offering a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation starting in January.

The only thing is it's a EAL EMTA course - not an NVQ - so I'm not sure how they compare, how widely this is recognised in comparison, and what the options are to progress to L3 once I've completed it.

Can anyone help?

links for info:

another question - is it worth doing a quick domestic installer course before starting the L2 with a view to getting some experience as a labourer/mate/improver/whatever in the trade while I study part time?

Opinion seems to be pretty polarised on this course so probably worth asking
