Hi guys, client wants existing outside light on a house replaced and the replacement to go in a lower position. So I'm thinking weatherproof suitably IP rated junction box at the existing light position and then some UV/weather resistant cable to drop to the new light position. Any recommendations for suitable cable please? Is pond pump cable UV/weather resistant? Cheers.

Cheers for that. Could do with it today and local suppliers don't seem to carry it :-( CEF said "We recommend Arctic Blue for that" but that just appears to be flexible down to very low temperature as opposed to UV/weather resistant (which is what I said I needed- but I suppose "being very cold" counts as weather....)

Any other suggestions for something someone might have on the shelf welcome. But cheers again for the HiTuf heads up.

I use NYY-J. It does not appear to be stocked by any of the normal wholesalers locally so I have some in stock.

I recently tried to get some 4mm T&E locally and had difficulty "we don't get any demand for it" was the standard response. So anything slightly out of the ordinary stands no chance of being stocked.

Chaps what is the difference between hi tuff and NYYJ cable???
Is it that one is stranded and the other solid cores or is that they have different temperature solutions

I think black pvc cable is better outside, it has better UV Resisting qualities. Not sure about rubber...?

won't that degrade in the sunlight like good old rubber cables of old?

Hi tuff or NYYJ would be ideal but so long as it is in a location not subject to damage any black cable would be fine.
Pond flex is black rubber and would be good.

It's about 7 foot up. Went for pond flex in the end. Cheers guys. Tempted to stick a bit outside somewhere and see how it fares over time.

we've got a length of 2.5mm2 t&e cable run along a line to the garage, fully exposed to the elements, been up at least 35 years so far, and still tested out fine last year.... so you could be in for a long wait.

I slung a bit of twin and earth across to my shed 20 years ago lol, it still works and is still just about grey in colour, anyone seeing it would suggest I shut the power off immediately haha, nothing wrong with it.

I have replaced a fair bit of 2.5T&E fixed outside. The top of the sheathing where it got the sun had disappeared and the insulation on the inner cores was breaking up. It had probably been up for 30 years and was all nicely clipped to a wall with no movement.

If you use twin and earth outside, the only thing I can see it being used for is tethering your horse to because its cowboy work that is.

Disclaimer: If you used twin and earth years ago, that's fine.... rules, what rules?

Its not really on these days but I have some as MDJ mentions on my house must be 30 years old and looks rubbish but tests fine. Id like to say I will change it for some nice black flex but you
know what sparky houses look like..... A huge list of busmans holiday jobs to do.
