Part P and CE marked LV lighting.

Guys I'd appreciate opinions on this as I have to give evidence at an inquest where this may be relevant.
Under Part P 12v halogen lights not in a special location are classed as a special installation and require notification....unless they are pre-assembled and CE marked. Am I correct in thinking that would not apply to a separate downlight and electronic transformer,even if both were CE marked..and that such an arrangement would require notification?.....Am I correct in thinking that the part P 'pre-assembled' thing means an arrangement such as a 12v fitting with a built in tranny?
Need to get this right so appreciate your thoughts.

Pre-assembled, CE marked lighting sets, I always take to mean the transformer is already connected to the ELV side, leaving just the LV for the installer to contend with.

agree with IQ. and i think the reasoning behind it is the fact that poorly installed elv lighting is more of a fire hazard due the the much larger currents compared to 230V. i.e. undersized elv cabling and connectors.

Thanks IQ and Tel.....seems a bit of a grey area though,but I think for my purpose a separate tranny/downlight CE marked arrangement connected by the installer would not be classed as pre assembled,although there are downlights available with the tranny already connected to the downlight which is effectively the same arrangement!

It was ELV lights I am concerned with Jason,which are classed as 'special installations' and notifyable even outside of kitchens/bathrooms..the case I have to give evidence on concerns the installation of a ELV downlight and transformer in a lounge.While the legality of carrying out the work without notifying BC may not come up,I want to be clear in case I'm asked.
