Any ideas on what the hourly rate is of the sparks at Pimlico plumbers?

Probably charged out at £75 per hour, probably paid nearer to £17 per hour.

My guess is that the sparks on the books get a fraction of the charges.

thats plus VAT

30% of £80 is £24.00 - may be, 40% is £32.00 which I doubt.

Hmm 24 quid an hour is still a decent earner and if you can get in the overtime in and Sundays your laughing.

The thing with these is that they expect you to upsell when you get to the job.
They don't allow you to carry stock on the van, you have to charge the customer for travel and parking and going to get the materials after having showed at the premise to look at the job.
Pretty much a scam setup. There seems to be more of these appearing in the London area.
I was once told by a manger in a similar setup that they had customers happy to pay over £100 for a light lamp change!

This lot could set up a shop in Edinburgh and St Andrews,there is plenty of rich people with more money than sense in these areas,and they could charge the same prices and pay tradesmen a lot less than London.

Bit harsh to call it a scam setup, they're actually quite successful and well respected. £100 for a lamp change isn't too over the top for central London, if I get a call for a lamp change its gonna be my minimum charge, for central London that's £90.
