Hi guys just a question about am2. When setting the dol overload relay does it have to be as close as possible or do
I have to add a percentage on top. So for example the kw rating of the motor is 0.55kw

so ive worked it out like this ... 550 divided by 693 which gives me 0.79 and on my dol i have the option of 0.80. 1a and some
Others i cant remember what they were but anyway ive chosen 0.80 is this correct or is is too bang on ? Cheers

If the motor has a power output rating of 0.55kW, or what in old money we used to call 3/4hp, then your line current calculation is wrong. 0.79A would be for a resistive load of 0.55kW electrical input. Show your working in full with the units, not just unidentifiable numbers.

To answer your original question, most overload relays are calibrated for motor FLC. I.e. if you set it to the FLC on the motor plate, it will be correctly adjusted to protect that motor.

BTW it grates when people call this thing a 'DOL'. It's a starter. A Direct-on-Line starter.
